We will contribute to the reduction of CO2 emitted by the coal-fired power plants through our business that provides carbon neutral biomass fuel.
The total capacity of coal-fired power equipment is 2015GW, which is the main power source accounting for 40% of the world. However, after COP21 Paris in the end of 2015, the movement away from coal-fired power generation has been rapidly accelerated. Especially the UK announced that 15 coal-fired power plants will be closed by 2025, and China and India have frozen more than 100 construction plans. It has resulted in reducing more than 60 % of new projects of coal-fired power plants in the world.
Under such global tendencies, Japan set the ratio of coal-fired power to 26 % in the 2030 Energy Mix. However, as a realistic choice to prevent coal-fired power plants from becoming “Stranded Assets” in the future, the reduction of the usage of coal will be most effective by exploiting alternative fuel to coal.
Since we announced in newspapers that we have developed biomass fuel as an alternative to coal, many inquiries from major domestic and overseas companies were poured into us, which has made us clearly recognized of the strong needs for biomass fuel.
We collect PKS, which will be used as the biomass fuel, from Palm Oil Mills in various places of Indonesia and Malaysia. After removing foreign substances, such as metal, glass, ceramics and pebbles almost completely from PKS, through the newest type “Pneumatic Density Separator” developed by us, PKS is stored in our own stockpile near each shipping port. It is usually exported by bulk ship to power generation companies and trading companies in Japan, China, and Europe.

i. Higher Grindability
Torrefaction improves grindability and HGI (Hardgrove Grindability Index), which greatly increases the co-firing ratio with pulverized coal (normally 3%, which goes up to more than 30%).
ii. Higher Energy Density
Its energy density is 20 MJ/Kg or 15 GJ/m, which is three times higher than that of wood chips and twice higher than that of wood pellets. This high density enables better combustion efficiency and lower transportation costs.
iii. Higher Water Repellency and Non-Fermentability
Higher water resistance enables outdoor storage. Thus, investments to new storage facilities are basically not necessary. Also, torrefaction greatly lowers the pyrophoric, which hugely contributes to the storage safety.
iv. Comparable Handling Easiness as Coal
Co-firing of normal wood biomass with coal usually requires dedicated handling facilities, which would not be necessary anymore because torrefied products are so easy to be handled as coal. Thanks to such handling easiness, torrefied fuel has unrivalled possibilities of being used as an alternative to coal.
v. Diversified Raw Materials
At this stage, we are starting with the PKS business, which is comparatively easy to handle. However, possible materials for future usage include EFB, OPT, wood pellets, coconut shells, fast growing trees native to the Philippines, chicken manure, mangrove trees and so forth. Some of the above materials, such as EFB and OPT, contain hazardous substances such as chlorine, potassium and sodium, which makes them difficult to be used as fuels. Nonetheless, our special technology makes it possible to reduce those toxic elements below the internationally permitted level. This technology, therefore, enables such materials to be utilized as fuels, that have been so far treated as wastes, which can be acquired at a lower cost now.
Coconut shell is expected to be an ideal raw material for carbonized product other than PKS. It has been so far discarded as wastes, since there is no other way to utilize it after its juice and flesh are consumed. However, by the treatment at a high temperature (between 300℃ and 550℃) with our high-performance carbonizing machine, coconut shells will turn into the most suitable primary material for activated carbon that has been globally demanded today. Those carbonized coconut shells have been widely accepted with extra value added.

Chicken’s act of defecating on rice husk creates the mixture of poultry manure and rice husk. By carbonizing them at the temperature of 350℃, they will become high quality organic fertilizer which contains five important elements of carbon, silicon, nitrogen, phosphoric acid and potassium. It will be the best fertilizer that farmers around the world, fruit and palm plantations have been waiting for. Currently, it is assumed that there are over 1.8 billion of Chickens in Indonesia, and adult chickens defecate 100 gr of droppings each day, which stably provides sufficient materials for this business.
As a business plan, we would build carbonizing plants in an area where poultry manures are most easily collected. Carbonized poultry manure fertilizers produced at each plant are packed to export them from a near shipping port towards Japan or China. For the first year, we monthly produce 1000 tons of products from 3000 tons of materials, and the production will gradually be increased from the second year and on.
